Renting and building in Graubünden
Switzerland's largest canton has plenty of available building land – so far, so logical. What is much less widely known is that purchase prices are low by national standards. Here, the dream of owning a home close to nature need not remain out of reach. It is therefore hardly surprising that we are welcoming more and more young families into our communities.

Particularly affordable building land can be found outside the tourism hotspots and the Rhine Valley. It is well worth looking for plots in smaller municipalities.
Affordable rental properties
Many newcomers initially choose the flexibility of renting. It is a worthwhile option: in 2022, the average rent for a spacious three- to four-room apartment in Graubünden was CHF 1'416, which, according to the Federal Statistical Office, was below the national average.
Homes are filling up
Moving to Graubünden is increasingly popular. Since 2017, the vacancy rate has fallen significantly, demonstrating the canton's growing appeal as a place to live. “Smaller municipalities in particular are pleased to welcome families with children,” says Graubünden property expert Doris Walder. “However, attractive properties are available to rent or buy in every municipality.”
Living in the heart of nature
People in Graubünden do not need to make a quick weekend trip to the mountains to escape everyday life. Here, you can live and work directly in one of Switzerland's largest recreational areas. We enjoy combining the commute with a bike ride or spending our lunch break on the cross-country ski trail.
Mountain office
Anyone who finds working from home within the same four walls every day too monotonous can use the many coworking spaces available across the canton. Spaces already exist in Chur, Scuol, Laax and Davos, among other locations. Growing demand for shared workspaces is leading to an increasingly dense network of coworking offices throughout Graubünden.
